The words "kitchen makeover" tend to imply a massive budget, hundreds of hours, and lots of blood, sweat, and tears. These three kitchen makeovers had none of those things. And that's why we love them so much. They were all done on a DIY budget and were fairly easy to complete (easy for us to say, we know, but the homeowners all said so, too!). And the results are nothing short of amazing.

1. A chalk paint masterpiece

Jessica Davis simply could not live with her kitchen as it was while she saved up the cash for a full-on renovation. In the meantime, she decided she wanted the cabinets painted: "Most of the quotes [from professionals] came in at $3,000 or more. Ecks!" she says. "But the idea of sanding, priming, and painting the cabinets on my own sounded way too far down the DIY rabbit hole." She ultimately decided to use chalk paint, which meant she wouldn't have to sand or prime the cabinets. She loved the results so much, she even used the stuff on her floors.

2. More than a Band-Aid

For years Maria Jordan, the blogger behind Maria Did That, painted and updated almost every room of her house — except the kitchen. "I couldn't afford the kitchen I wanted so I just lived with a dirty yellow vinyl floor, yellow backsplash (of an unknown material), yellow Formica countertops with scorch marks, and dark wooden cabinets," she says. Upon a friend's suggestion of using stick-on tiles, Maria decided to Band-Aid on the situation.

She got to work painting the cabinets, changing the hardware, resurfacing the counters, and installing floor tiles. She spent $3000, which is a lot of money, but that price tag included new appliances, too.

3. A $200 transformation

With less than $200 and two weekends spent working, Heather Douglas (of Mysa Home Styling) and her husband transformed their kitchen into a playful, personality-packed cook space that any homeowner would be proud to call their own.

They removed the dark and heavy upper cabinets and replaced it with peel-and-stick gold speckled wallpaper from Target. Then, they added a new lighting fixture over the sink and a shiny new faucet. That was pretty much it! Impressive, right?
