Martha Stewart’s Christmas Eve Dinner Was Jaw-Droppingly Indulgent — Kitchen Heroes
Martha Stewart is the queen of beautifully executed entertaining. When one pictures her holiday dinners, it brings to mind visions of spiral hams and glossy golden-brown turkeys with little paper crowns on the drumsticks. One might expect cranberries, or even figgy pudding. But Martha Stewart's actual Christmas Eve dinner was way more luxurious than even that, because Martha Stewart's Christmas Eve dinner was a simple plate of homemade fettuccine topped with a mountain of shaved white truffles.

Martha Stewart spent Christmas Eve at her daughter Alexis' house, and she posted a photo of the holiday meal to Twitter. At first glance it looked like a surprisingly simple dish of pasta, and some Twitter users commented that it looked "bland" and "unappetizing." But Martha's homemade fettuccine cannot possibly have been bland, because it was topped with fresh white truffles from Italy, one of the most expensive and highly sought-after ingredients in the world.

White truffles are excruciatingly expensive, but they're pretty extraordinary. They're powerfully aromatic, and the flavor infuses everything they come into contact with, which is why they're usually served shaved over a portion of simple pasta or risotto.
White truffles are in season now, and they're certainly well-suited for a special-occasion meal like Christmas Eve dinner. Martha Stewart says the holidays are the best time to indulge in one's favorite foods, so she's certainly doing that right.
Stewart's truffles came from Urbani, which is one of the world's largest truffle vendors and sells fresh Italian white truffles online for $300 an ounce. The white truffles appear to be out of stock on the company's website at the moment. Maybe they're all on top of Martha Stewart's pasta.
