Here's What Ina Garten Would Choose for Her Last Meal — Kitchen Heroes

December 19, 2017

Ina Garten is just the best. She's warm, funny, casually elegant, and her award-winning cookbooks are absolutely foolproof. Her food expertise is renowned, she has the best dinner party tips, and I am about 99-percent sure that Prince Harry proposed to Meghan Markle over Ina Garten's roast chicken. So when Ina Garten suggests something, we listen. That's why it was so surprising to hear that her top choice for her last meal would be a hot dog. A hot dog!

Ina Garten has a taste for the expensive and refined, so one might expect that she'd choose something like lobster or coq au vin or even her own perfect roast chicken recipe. But when Today Food asked Ina Garten what she'd pick for her final meal, Ina Garten surprised everybody by picking a hot dog.

"OK, my last meal is going to surprise you," she said. "It's gonna be a hot dog at Frenchie to Go in Paris. It's unbelievable. Maybe with french fries, since it's the last meal."

That hot dog appears to be on her mind because she just had one recently, and it really made an impression on her. At the end of November Ina Garten Instagrammed a photo of a hot dog and french fries at Frenchie to Go and called it her "best lunch ever."

Of course, Ina Garten's last meal is not going to be just any hot dog. Frenchie to Go is a street food-inspired spin-off of chef Gregory Marchand's fine-dining restaurant and wine bar, Frenchie. The main restaurant serves a five-course prix fixe tasting menu for $87, without wine, but the miniature offshoot is a coffee shop and breakfast/lunch spot that serves things like bacon muffins, eggs Benedict with pastrami, lobster rolls, burrata sandwiches, and the best hot dog Ina Garten has ever had.

What makes the hot dog so special? According to the Frenchie to Go menu, it's a homemade hot dog made of 100 percent smoked Shorthorn beef on a hot dog bun by famed Paris baker Gontran Cherrier. It's served with housemade sauerkraut and relish and topped with Savora sauce, a popular French condiment made of mustard seeds, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, nutmeg, curcuma, cloves, celery, garlic, tarragon, vinegar, and a touch of honey.

The hot dog costs $9.45, which is a lot for a hot dog, but it's not much at all to pay for something so good Ina Garten would choose it for her last meal.
