Trader Joe's Recalls Packaged Salads for Plastic and Glass Shards — Food Recall

November 20, 2017

If you've been hitting up Trader Joe's lately for pre-packaged salads for lunch or dinner, you might want to check your fridge. In a statement made on Saturday, the grocery chain noted that three of their packaged salads may contain plastic and glass shards. Yikes!

The three salads being recalled, seen above, are the White Meat Chicken, Curried White Chicken Deli, and Turkey Cranberry Apple. They all have use-by dates between November 10 and 21. The salads are also said to have a USDA inspection code P-40299. If it doesn't have this code, your salad should be just fine.

The recall for the White Meat Chicken and Curried White Chicken Deli salads were sold in Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas, and the Turkey Cranberry Apple salads were sold in Arizona, California, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.

All the salads with the inspection code have been taken off the shelves, but if you bought the salad you are urged to throw it away or return it to Trader Joe's for a full refund.

If you're totally crushed about these three salads, know that there are plenty more pre-packaged things that make up a good lunch from Trader Joe's. Earlier this year we learned about this super-smart $2 lunch from Trader Joe's, thanks to Cup of Jo. For $2.99 you can buy a 13.6-ounce bag of Southwestern Chopped Salad. Split the bag into two lunch potions and add some black beans or avocado to make it a complete meal. How smart is that?

Of course, if you have more time on your hands, you can always make your own salad at home. I'm particularly interested in making this weeknight winter salad in the next couple months because it looks super hearty.
