Did You Know That You Can Freeze Pancake Batter? — Tips from The Kitchn

November 29, 2017

Although making pancake batter isn't difficult, it doesn't always make for a speedy morning. But you can make weekday pancakes a reality with this simple freezer tip. Best of all? It doesn't involve reheating cold pancakes.

For Better Make-Ahead Pancakes, Freeze the Batter!

Instead of baking up a double batch of pancakes this week and stashing them in the freezer, just double the batter and enjoy half for breakfast and freeze the rest of the batter for another day.

Freezing pancake batter does't require any special steps or tools — just mix up a batch of your favorite batter and pour it into a gallon-size zip-top bag (smaller if you regularly make pancakes for less than an army). Roll the bag into a cone shape to ensure all the excess air is removed. Lay flat, then seal and freeze! You can store batter in the freezer for up to a month.

When you're ready to do some pancake making, just thaw in warm water or overnight in the refrigerator. Snip off a corner of the bag to pipe the pancakes directly onto the hot griddle. Now's the time to experiment with any wacky shapes and designs!

Add in anything from chocolate chips to blueberries and have a special breakfast of a short stack even on the busiest Tuesday morning.
