Future Princess Meghan Markle Has Good Taste in Food and Men — Pop Culture

November 27, 2017

It's finally happened! After months of making the whole world wait in anxious anticipation, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement this morning. The couple is over the moon, and their families are thrilled. They will get married this spring, which means the whole world has a royal wedding to look forward to, and their menu will certainly be spectacular.

Meghan Markle has very good taste, and not just in men. She's also passionate about food and cooking. The Suits star used to run a lifestyle blog called The Tig, which focused heavily on food. (When The Tig shut down in April, royal wedding rumors got really serious.)

Several years ago, Markle talked with food site The New Potato about her favorite foods. She said her ideal food day would begin with, "A Clean Cleanse vanilla shake blended with frozen Ontario blueberries for breakfast, a Niçoise salad and glass of rosé, with some Grey Owl goat cheese and baguette on the side for lunch."

The future Princess Henry of Wales said her perfect dinner was, "A leisurely dinner of seafood and pasta, and a negroni to cap off the night."

A love of pasta puts her in good company with the rest of the royals, because Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge are fans of red sauce. As a newlywed, Prince William tried to impress his wife by making her a lasagna, and it ended so badly he had to ask Giada De Laurentis to help him out with some cooking advice. Hopefully Giada will be on speed dial if Prince Harry wants to try making Meghan Markle's favorite seafood pasta.

The Queen might not be a fan of seafood pastas like Markle is (she banned garlic from Buckingham Palace and advises her family to not eat shellfish while working), but she and Markle have very similar taste in cocktails. Markle's ideal nightcap is a classic negroni, which is a gin cocktail with sweet vermouth and bitter, herbal Campari. The Queen's favorite cocktail is a Zaza cocktail, which is made with gin and Dubonnet Rouge. Dubonnet Rouge is a French wine-based aperitif that's rich, sweet, and spicy like Port wine, but also has bitter notes from quinine. They're pretty similar cocktails. One imagines the queen and her future granddaughter-in-law will be enjoying a few of those as nightcaps in the near future.

Markle also loves wine and cocktails.

"God, do I love wine," she told The New Potato. "A beautiful full red or a crisp white. But if it's cocktails, I love a spicy tequila cocktail, negroni, or good scotch (neat)."

According to The Daily Meal, the Queen is a big fan of sparkling wine and enjoys several glasses a day. Meghan Markle is going to fit in just great.
