In a sea full of creepy and punny Halloween costumes, it can be hard to truly stand out. We've seen it all before, right? A quick scroll through Instagram under the #HalloweenCostume tag reveals that last night and this past weekend, a lot of people dressed up as clowns, ghouls, tacos, and Eleven from Stranger Things. All great costumes ideas! But nothing out of the ordinary.

That's why I was totally blown away when I saw Apartment Therapy's Assistant Lifestyle Editor, Brittney Morgan and her friend Rebecca, had dressed up as "brunch" for Halloween. Brittney dressed up as a Bloody Mary and Rebecca dressed up as food you would typically find at brunch (I mean, are you seeing that cereal hair fascinator?)

"My friend Rebecca and I both love brunch— she's always Instagramming amazing brunches from all over, and I'm always the first one to order a Bloody Mary— so when she asked if we could do a costume together a few months ago, it was honestly just the first thing I thought of," explains Brittney on the inspiration for the Halloween costume. "At first I suggested it jokingly, but I love a good craft challenge and the more we talked about it the more ideas I had, so we just went for it," she continues.

Brittney was in charge of making both costumes. Rebecca's food costume was harder to make because she had to do some sewing to make it happen. "I used felt for the food and then stuffed them with a little polyester filling, adhered them to some paper plates and napkins with super glue, and then velcroed them to a white t-shirt dress. The cereal bowl headpiece was just an inexpensive plastic bowl that I attached to a headband and filled with more polyester filling, topped with rainbow pompoms on white felt and a spoon made out of card stock," Brittney explains.

The Bloody Mary costume was a little bit easier to make. "For my costume, I cut the olives (and attached them to a wooden dowel), I made the ice cubes out of card stock and attached them with velcro. I sewed and stuffed my lemon wedge like the rest of the food and attached it to a headband with the paper celery," says Brittney.

Brittney says she spent $75 to make both costumes and it took her a few days to complete the project. Considering that this duo is definitely the best costume I saw this year, I'd say it's money well spent!
