Ree Drummond on the One Food She Never Eats — Kitchen Heroes
Like many, I've been a huge Ree Drummond fan from the start. When you're standing in the grocery store and have a hankering for a specific dish, her recipes are a quick Google for unfussy food to feed a family. That said, after all the years I've been watching with eagle eyes as she's grown her food empire, I never noticed that she has one basic ingredient missing from her kitchen.
If you're like me and you've been following along from the start, it might seem shocking to find out she's been missing one thing in her kitchen from the beginning: bananas.
She did write a post about her dislike for the fruit back in 2011, coupled with a recipe for bananas Foster. "In my entire forty-two years on this earth, I've never eaten a whole banana. I've had accidental bites here and there, half of which were promptly spit out into a napkin," Ree explains in the post.
Her dislike for the fruit came out again this year when she was interviewed by Fox after being selected as the face for this year's Pillsbury Bake-Off Contest. When asked what ingredient was off-limits for her, Ree reinforced what she said in 2011. "Bananas. That's the only ingredient that's off-limits and it's because of me. I have a restaurant in my small town and there's not a single banana in the joint anywhere," she explains.
I have friends who have strong aversions to things like mayonnaise or mangoes. Both of which are completely nuts to me. Is there a food that no matter how it's sliced, diced, prepared or disguised you will forever loathe and detest? Cilantro is a popular one to hate, as are foods with odd textures like uni. What's at the top of your list?
