Next Week's Meal Plan: 5 Cozy Comfort-Food Dinners — Next Week's Meal Plan

November 04, 2017

How do you divide dinner chores at home? Most weekdays I cook dinner and my husband clears the dishes, puts away leftovers, and washes dishes in return. This is purely logistical based on our work schedules — mine is consistent and his is erratic. We both contribute to grocery chores, but as the primary cook, meal planning usually falls on my shoulders.

This week my husband has a rare open week and after he had three very specific requests for dinner, I passed the meal planning responsibility off to him for the rest of the week. What's so different about a meal plan created by my husband? There's more meat and inhibited cravings for comfort food. Here's the cozy comfort food we are cooking for the week ahead.

Welcome to This Week's Meal Plan

Planning my weekly meals is a habit I enjoy. Since I'm frequently asked by friends and family what I'm cooking for dinner each week, I thought it'd be useful to share my weekly meal plan here. Whether you're just learning to meal plan and looking for a real-life example of how this works or you're an old pro on the hunt for inspiration, here's a peek at how I'm feeding my family this week.

New to meal planning? Start here.

It's safe to say that my family is obsessed with these sheet pan Cubano sliders. We probably eat them once a month, varying the bread based on what's available in the grocery store. The roast pork comes from either a roasted loin or pulled pork from the slow cooker. This week it's the former, leftover from Sunday's dinner.

Hamburger Helper was a staple of both our childhoods, and this recipe always brings us right back there. We'll pair this with a simple romaine salad with a acidic vinaigrette to balance the plate.

My husband first had posole when I made it for him while he was sick during our first month dating. It's probably his second most-requested dinner after classic cheeseburgers. This is the quick weeknight version he can cook without a recipe some seven years later.

A bunch of Kitchn editors have already tried this recipe to rave reviews. Our 5-year-old requested "steak" for dinner this week, and this recipe gives us all what we want. We'll serve this with roasted sweet potatoes or steamed broccoli on the side.

Friday: Pizza Delivery with Jersey Salad

Our pizza Friday tradition includes the opportunity to order pizza when the week is busy or there aren't leftovers to throw on top of homemade dough. We fell in love with the Jersey salad when testing it for the site; it's the perfect accompaniment to takeout pizza
