The other day, our entire staff was laughing at a tweet that someone forwarded from Simon Holland: "We keep a potato masher in a drawer because sometimes it's fun to not be able to open that drawer." It's funny because it's true. We all admitted to having a drawer (or three) like that in our kitchens.

Whether it's a potato masher, a bunch of Tupperware lids, or just a jumble of nonsense, there's almost always something junking up a drawer. That's why we rounded up these impressively organized drawers. Let's all use them as inspiration — and maybe consider relocating our potato mashers.

1. A Drawer with Diagonal Storage

We featured this drawer for the first time back in 2014 and it remains one of our most popular pins on Pinterest of all time. It's not the most beautiful drawer you'll ever see, but it's jaw-dropping because it's brilliant. Of course you should organize your large serving tools diagonally! It's amazing we all hadn't thought of this sooner.

2. A Two-Tiered Flatware Drawer

Interior design company Soda Pop Design likes to use double-decker cutlery drawers because they can nearly double the storage options in a drawer. Look for special drawers made of wood or less expensive plastic inserts on Amazon.

3. A Drawer of Pots and Lids

These DIY drawer dividers from the blog Seeded at the Table are a simple solution to the precarious tower of pots and lids that's in most kitchens. By putting pots on their sides in a drawer, you can easily see everything at a glance and pull out a piece without starting an avalanche of cookware.

4. A Drawer of Pantry Staples

Multi-purpose bins are an easy way to turn an otherwise cavernous pull-out drawer into a divided — and organized! — mini food pantry. Jen, the savvy organization maven behind I Heart Organizing, picked up several large- and medium-sized bins from the Container Store, then labeled and placed them in a deep drawer as a way to silo things like bread, chips, onions, and potatoes.

5. A Spice Rack in a Drawer

Instead of perilously stacking your spices in a pantry or cabinet, why not dedicate a drawer to them? Molly, the blogger behind Almost Makes Perfect, realized that she didn't even need to buy a special holder to pull this off. She just lined the base of the drawer with a piece of felt and laid the jars in rows — labels facing out, of course.

Let's be honest — food storage containers can wreak the biggest havoc on any space. This drawer can help, and you can actually buy it. It's a pull-out system that mounts into a lower cabinet and has room for your containers and all the lids.

7. A Drawer for Bulky Countertop Clutter and Serving Pieces

It can be hard to find a place for bulkier items (we're looking at you, toaster and breadbox!). Take a note from this airy Cape Cod kitchen (featured on Remodelista) and dedicate a whole pantry to your accessories. Stationary shelves house glassware and vases, while pull-out versions give easy access to everything from small appliances to big serving bowls.

8. A Drawer That's a Charging Station

The folks at LGB Interiors ran a power strip into a drawer in order to turn it into a charging station. The drawer is decently organized, but what we love the most is the fact that all that electronic clutter is hidden away, out of sight.

9. A Drawer That's a Knife Rack

We've seen these sorts of vertical drawers with crocks for utensils, but this one opens to reveal a knife block! It fits into a narrow space that would otherwise be wasted. Just slip them into the slots in size order and you'll always know what you're reaching for.

10. A Junk Drawer That's Anything but Junky

This drawer from Modish & Main is technically part of a desk, but the lesson still applies for your kitchen's junk drawer. The lesson is simple: The more bins, the better. You don't even have to buy anything special — just cover empty cardboard boxes in pretty paper and call it a day.
