You Need to See the Kitchen in Mandy Moore’s New Home — Pop Culture
When Mandy Moore is not making everybody cry as the star of NBC's heartbreaking melodrama This Is Us, she is making them cry with kitchen envy. Moore has been renovating a mid-century modern home for the past year, and now she's finally about ready to move in, and the place looks spectacular.
According to Delish, Moore's home was built in 1950 by architect Harold Zook, and she bought it last January. At some point in the 1990s, however, the home underwent a big renovation that did not exactly go along with the home's modern architecture. According to Moore's interior designer, Sarah Sherman Samuel, who has been chronicling the entire Mandy Moore home project on her blog, the 1990s kitchen included two islands, rounded shapes that didn't fit the home's modern geometry, multi-level cabinets with traditional-style trim, tile floors, and French doors.
For Moore's update, Sherman Samuel and architect Emily Farnham demoed the entire kitchen and got rid of all the rounded details, and now it looks like this.
The new island is a waterfall design made of Calacatta Venato marble. They gave up some storage space in exchange for seating at the island, because the place is designed for people to congregate and hang out. Also, the new kitchen layout gave up some cabinet space in order to open the place up and create more room for entertaining, but the new layout gained them a whole pantry for storage.
The 1990s kitchen had a double oven in the wall, and a cooktop in the island, but now the kitchen has a full range, flanked by modern slab-style cabinets and floating shelving. The cabinet fronts are painted in Mizzle, a sage color by Farrow and Ball.
