There are budget makeovers, and then there are budget makeovers. These fall in the latter camp and still manage to knock our socks off, despite the teeniest, tiniest price tags imaginable.

1. Some paint, tiles, and new shelving

Hannah of Seeds & Stitches pulled off this amazing transformation — which involved painting cabinets, a basic backsplash, and new open shelving — for less than $500.

2. A handdrawn backsplash

Mallory, the blogger behind Classy Clutter, was able to get this bright and fun kitchen for about $200. It involved a lot of time (namely on the hand-drawn "backsplash") but because it's a rental, she won't look back and wonder why she spent so much money on a temporary space.

3. A new floor and backsplash

Julia upgraded her kitchen for right around $1,000 and it included a new floor, wall paint, and backsplash. The island is made of a table top and trestles from IKEA, which she already had on hand. You can see the before-and-after pics and her entire house tour at Apartment Therapy.

4. Shiplap and a faux marble countertop

After two weeks of non-stop painting and sanding, Sarah, of All Things With Purpose, revealed her fixed up $300 kitchen. To keep costs down she used shiplap instead of tile on the backsplash, and tried her luck at hand-marbleizing the countertop.

5. Refinished floors and painted cabinets

This cute kitchen from Beautiful Matters got a drastic new look for about $500. The biggest differences: the newly scraped and refinished hardwood floor, the painted cabinets, and the red door.
