This $5 Breakfast from Costco in California Sounds Amazing — Grocery News

January 31, 2018

2017 was a big year, and I personally spent a large part of it in a state of overwhelming envy over the array of fancy and delicious-looking dishes that other people could find in their Costco food courts. A Costco in Wales served cottage pie — which is like shepherd's pie, but with beef — and jacket potatoes, while Costco in France serves chicken fingers and ham and cheese croissants. But now a California Costco is stepping up for U.S. Costco stores everywhere with a new açaí bowl that looks pretty amazing, and it's just $4.99.

The new açaí bowl consists of a sizable helping of frozen, pureed açaí surrounded by fresh strawberries and blueberries. I feel healthier just looking at that thing.

The new açaí bowl was reportedly spotted by a Reddit user going by PookeyBear13 at a Costco food court in San Juan Capistrano, California, and it's also topped with Kirkland Signature granola and banana chips. It looks like it would make a great breakfast.

Of course, it's in a Costco food court, so the price is extremely low. $4.99 might be a bit more expensive than the food court's traditional hot dogs and pizza, but $4.99 is a great price for all that fruit. Every time I add strawberries or blueberries to my order at a weigh-your-own frozen yogurt place, I wind up tipping the scales and owing them my firstborn.

The açaí bowls have been spotted at Costcos in Seattle, Washington, and Fremont, California, too. Reviews are mixed, but açaí can be a pretty polarizing flavor. If you like açaí and fresh fruit, it would probably be worth a try. Now the rest of us just have to hope this sells so well that Costco sends it to the Midwest and everywhere else as well.

Would you try Costco's new açaí bowl?
