Anthony Bourdain Says This Is His Favorite City in the World — Food News

January 02, 2018

Anthony Bourdain travels a lot. It sounds like one of the best things about being Anthony Bourdain. On his popular, Emmy Award-winning CNN travel show, Parts Unknown, the celebrity chef, writer, and TV personality travels someplace, eats food there, then travels somewhere else and eats even more food. It's a pretty fantastic gig. But despite the fact that his entire life is devoted to traveling all over the world, Anthony Bourdain says that if he absolutely had to stay in one place forever, he knows exactly where he'd choose: Tokyo.

"If I had to agree to live in one country, or even one city, for the rest of my life, never leaving it, I'd pick Tokyo in a second," he said in an interview with Maxim.

Bourdain said his first trip to Tokyo was an "explosive," life-changing event. He even compared his first trip to Tokyo with the first time he ever took acid, in the way it changed every experience that came after it.

"Nothing was ever the same for me," Bourdain said of his first trip to Tokyo. "I just wanted more of it."

Bourdain talks a lot about how much he loves Tokyo. In 2013 he wrote that he could eat in Tokyo for the rest of his life without feeling like he'd done more than scratched the surface of what Tokyo cuisine has to offer.

"I love Tokyo. If I had to eat only in one city for the rest of my life, Tokyo would be it. Most chefs I know would agree with me," Bourdain wrote.

Tokyo is an amazing city for food, at virtually every level and price point. Tokyo has some of the world's best sushi, cocktails, pastries, and even sushi made of Kit Kats, but you could also spend a week eating only from convenience stores and still go home full and happy. If I had to pick one city to eat in for the rest of my life, I'd probably pick Tokyo too.

What's your favorite food city?
