This Halloween, if you want to be the coolest house on the block, you're going to need to be super clever. Delight every ghoul, goblin, and trick-or-treater that comes your way with one of these clever front porch ideas.

1. Cheesecloth spider webs

This idea from HGTV uses a common kitchen supply for its eerie effect: cheesecloth! The fabric, which has been stained with tea to give it an aged effect, drapes above the entrance to a porch for a cobweb-covered haunted house vibe.

2. Boarded up windows

Susan, the blogger behind Between Naps on the Porch, saw this house while on a historic walking tour in Atlanta. There's so much going on here. Our favorite thing is the wood that's boarding up the windows on the second floor.

3. Styrofoam spiders

It wasn't enough for Jillie, of One Good Thing By Jillie, to just tape some paper bats to her front door, so she added some DIY spiders. Made from painted styrofoam balls and pipe cleaners, these things look extra creepy (and large!) next to tiny pumpkins.

4. Climbing skeletons

Anyone can sit a skeleton in a rocking chair and call it a night, but BHG came up with this brilliant idea to pose them in an escape scene. We're not sure we want to know where they're going!

5. Nontraditional Halloween colors

This porch, by Jen at Tatertots & Jello, isn't particularly spooky, but it sure is different. We love how she mixed things up with nontraditional colors for Halloween.

6. Paper mouse silhouettes

Alicia from Thrifty & Chic cut out silhouettes of mice from black paper and taped them to the treads of her front steps. It's brilliant because they look so realistic.

7. Monster door decorations

If you have little kiddos, you might want to try a not-so-scary setup. This Frankenstein front door, from Modern Day Moms, is made by using streamers (for the hair, eyebrows, and mouth) and paper plates (for the googly eyes). It's also an easy project to do with your little ones!

8. Pumpkin cats

Don't have the time to go all-out, making over your entire porch? Make a few of these black cats (using pumpkins!) from Sunset and put them on the steps to keep a watchful eye.

9. Birds in branches

Put all your yard's fallen branches to good use and prop them up on your porch like this shot from Create Craft Love. Jill used fishing line to attach fake birds for an even creepier vibe.

10. Ghosts made from tomato cages

We couldn't do a Halloween roundup without including some ghosts. These, featured on Thrift Diving, were made from tomato cages, string lights, and foam balls. One note: We'd suggest putting your ghosts off to the side, so that you don't have to worry about the cord becoming a tripping hazard.
