7 Smart Ways to Get More Storage Out of Your Walls — Small Space Kitchens
When you have a small kitchen, you can't only think in terms of square footage — your walls can add some serious storage! If you make smart use of your vertical space, you can easily squeeze in everything you need in a small kitchen.
Here are our favorite ways to use wall space in a small kitchen.
1. Add shelves anywhere (and everywhere) you can!
Even just one shelf can make a big difference in a little kitchen. Hang shelves anywhere you can. Putting them all the way up and down an empty wall is an obvious idea, but between your upper cabinets and your counter is also a great spot.
2. Hang a pegboard for flexible storage.
Seriously, is there anything a pegboard can't store? This workhorse is great for everything from spice racks to command centers to coffee stations.
3. Install pot rails.
Pot rails can go anywhere. And although they're technically called pot rails, you can hang nearly anything from them including baking supplies, mugs, cooking utensils, plants, etc.

4. Hang a knife rack vertically.
Narrow walls are probably not good for shelves, but they're almost always perfect for magnetic knife racks, which can be hung vertically instead of horizontally if need be.
5. Buy a special organizer.
We don't love to tell you guys to spend money in order to get organized, but sometimes the right product comes along and it just makes sense. This rack, for example, holds all sorts of stuff in just a small amount of space.
6. Hang baskets.
Baskets seem to come in even more shapes and sizes than shelves, which means you're sure to find something to fit on an awkwardly sized wall. Hang a few from their bottoms and you have industrial-like shelves for books, pantry items, linens and more.
7. Redefine your walls.
Walls aren't just the border of your kitchen! Consider the sides of your cabinets and you'll find a lot more storage space — instantly. Add shelves, hang a pot rail, make a magazine holder, and more. While you're thinking out of the box, also look to see if the inside of your cabinet doors or the back of your pantry door will be conducive to more storage.
