How to make French Custard Toast:

You’re going to use French bread for this recipe. Plan on picking up the cheap French bread that your regular grocery store sells. No need to go to a fancy bakery, and no need to buy a more expensive French bread. The store-brand kind is just fine for this French Custard Toast recipe. You’ll slice the bread into 12 slices and put 6 slices in each of two 9×13-inch pans.

The egg custard is made of milk, eggs, sugar, lemon zest, vanilla and salt. You’ll whisk all of those ingredients together in a bowl.

Then you’ll pour the egg custard over the bread in the dishes. Just be sure to divide it fairly evenly between the two dishes.

Let the bread soak up the egg custard for about 5 minutes, then turn it over. At this point, you’ll cover both of the dishes with plastic wrap and refrigerate the custard-soaked bread overnight.

The next morning, it’s time to bake the French Custard Toast! You’ll take it out of the refrigerator and heat up your oven to 325 degrees F. Sprinkle the French toast with cinnamon and sugar, and then bake for about 40 minutes.
