How to make Weight Watchers Sugar Cookies:

Mix the dough and pat it into a disk. Wrap it with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour. Chilled dough is easier to roll out. Roll out the dough and cut out shapes. Use hearts for Valentine’s Day or other shapes for different holidays or celebrations!

Place the cut-out cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for about 12 minutes. Then transfer the baked cookies to a cooling rack to cool completely.

pink glaze and drizzle on heart sugar cookies

These simple cookies need glaze to give them a little more sweetness as well as a pretty drizzle. The glaze is made of powdered sugar, water, vanilla and coloring. Make whatever color glaze you’d like!

The glaze will harden as the cookies are given a chance to sit. Sprinkle a little bit of chunky sugar on top, if desired.

These are not super sweet and decadent sugar cookies… because they’re Weight Watchers Sugar Cookies! They’re a sweet treat that’s delicious to enjoy if you’re watching your calories (or if you’re on the WW program). You can have two cookies for 6 points counted on any color of the WW program. The great thing about Weight Watchers recipes is that you can substitute healthier ingredients to make the recipes more appropriate to eat on a weight loss program.

After the icing has hardened, you can store these cookies in a covered container with layers separated by wax paper. When you’re following the WW program, put these Weight Watchers Sugar Cookies in little zip baggies of two per baggie. And then pop them in the freezer where they are safe from over-indulging! Then you can take them out when the craving hits. Enjoy!

Ingredients

COOKIES:

  • cups all purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • cup granulated white sugar
  • ¼ cup (½ stick) salted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 large egg white
  • ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup reduced-fat sour cream

ICING:

  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • food coloring, optional

Instructions

PREPARE THE COOKIES:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, nutmeg and salt. In a larger bowl, use an electric mixer to blend together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg white and vanilla, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed. Add the flour mixture and the sour cream alternately, beginning and ending with the flour mixture and beating just until blended. Shape the dough into a disk and wrap with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line baking sheets with silicon mats or parchment paper (or spray with nonstick spray).
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough to a thickness of ¼-inch. Using a 2-inch cookie cutter (I used a heart, but you can use any shape), cut out the cookies re-rolling the scraps to make a total of 28 cookies. Place cookies 1-inch apart on baking sheets.
  • Bake until the cookies are very lightly browned at the edges, 12 to 14 minutes. Transfer cookies to a rack and cool completely.

PREPARE THE ICING:

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, water and vanilla. Add coloring, if using. Use a spoon to drizzle icing over the cookies.
