This super quick, nutrient dense vegan mint chocolate hemp milk has quickly become a daily staple—it’s light, creamy, frothy, delicious, and full of plant-based protein. And mega green, from my favorite spirulina powder.
The genius thing about making your own hemp milk is that it requires absolutely no prep: all you need is water, hemp seeds, some vanilla extract, a pinch of sea salt, any sweetener desired, and a blender. In about sixty seconds flat, you’ll have the creamiest, frothiest milk of your plant milk dreams.
But here’s the bigger, even more brilliant secret of hemp milk: You don’t need to make it in advance for smoothies, lattes, and all other form of creamy drinks. You’ll simply start with a base of water, hemp seeds, vanilla, and sea salt, and riff from there. That means—yup, you guessed it: You don’t ever need to buy plant milk again. Grock that.
This version was inspired by the abundance of mint sprouting from almost every corner of the greenhouse these days. I’ve got four different varietals in full leaf: chocolate mint, peppermint, strawberry mint, and an exotic, variegated leaf pineapple mint. I often added it to my afternoon green juices, but what about a minty green milk? Better yet, a minty chocolate green milk.
In came the spirulina, the cacao powder, the vanilla, and, for an extra boost, some marine collagen powder. The collagen powder obviously renders this non-vegan, but you could use any protein boost you like here—or none at all. I’ve tried a variety of collagen options, and my body doesn’t handle any but the marine very well.
Hemp seeds provide a powerful dose of protein, spirulina delivers amino acids, iron, minerals, and chlorophyll, and cacao provides a hit of dopamine and antioxidants.
Enjoy this dreamy milk for breakfast, or as an afternoon snack, and feel yourself flooded with renewed energy and potent deliciousness.
