Soup Recipes:

  • My Easy French Onion Soup is rich, comforting and so good with toasted cheesy bread for dipping! The modern version of this soup originated in Paris.  It’s a beef broth soup with plenty of sauteed (or caramelized) onions, and it’s usually topped with a melted cheese slice of baguette.
  • I’m so happy to share with you the best chicken noodle soup recipe of all time, my Roasted Chicken Noodle Soup. I’ve been making this recipe for so many years.  There are quite a few chicken soup recipes on my website, but this is by far the best chicken soup recipe I’ve ever made.
  • Enjoy your favorite Italian pasta dish in soup form with creamy cheesy Lasagna Soup! Comfort food never looked or tasted so good. Not only does this taste better than regular lasagna, it’s also a bit healthier! It’s lower in carbs and has less cheese which means less calories/fat. Wahoo!
  • Stuffed Pepper Soup has all of the delicious flavors of stuffed bell peppers made into a soup instead! This Stuffed Pepper Soup is full of ground sausage, onion, cabbage, spices and plenty of bell peppers!  Marinara sauce and beef broth make up the soupy part of the soup. Make this soup when you’re want a change from making Lasagna Stuffed PeppersQuinoa Stuffed Peppers or Taco Mini Stuffed Peppers. It’s a hearty, filling, delicious soup!

fun shopping finds

Fun Shopping Finds:

  • I ordered this Colorblock Sweater in bright pink. If I like it, I may order another color or two!
  • These cow costumes are cheap and cute, and they look super snuggly warm too. If you like to (or have to) dress up for Halloween with your partner, I’d consider these!
  • Have you ever thought of dressing your dog up as the UPS man?  Cute costume idea for your dog!
  • My son was chatting up Ugg Slippers the other day. I have absolutely no idea what kind of slippers would be appealing to a 21 year old, do you??
  • This cute flannel dress was just delivered to my doorstep! I’m thinking it will be perfect for fall (especially in warmer fall climates), and it will look cute with leggings and boots too.
  • Speaking of boots, I’ve been eyeing these boots but I can’t decide on a color. More importantly, these are the boots I really, really want! Frye boots are an investment, but they seriously last forever.
  • I tried on this lace sleeve shirt at White House Black Market the other day, and now I’m kicking myself for not pulling the trigger and buying it! It would look great with the tall boots (in black) mentioned above!!

streaming reading

What I’m watching and reading:

  • I’m in the midst of watching the latest episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale (on Hulu). It’s such a dark story, but it’s very well acted. Are you watching that one?? We also saw The Watcher on Netflix. Have you seen it yet?? It’s loosely based on a true story. We enjoyed it a lot. And we had to do research on the real story after we were done watching it!
  • We watched Luckiest Girl Alive (movie on Netflix). I didn’t care for that one at all- I felt like it kind of glorified/justified school shootings due to bullying. And there were explicit rape scenes. I don’t think anyone needs to be watching that.
  • I need to recommend an audiobook I listed to a couple of months ago: Storyteller by Dave Grohl (from the Foo Fighters). I’m haven’t really been a Foo Fighter’s fan (I am now!), but I had heard his story was interesting so I bought the book. I loved it so much. He’s such an interesting guy. I’m currently finishing up The Only Plane in the Sky, which is an oral history of 911.

Fun Recipes I’ve spotted on the internet this week:

personal updates

Here’s what’s going on in my life:

  • It has been an amazing, warm fall in the Pacific Northwest. Temperatures have pretty much stayed above 70 degrees so far. I’m loving it, but I’m ready for fall!
  • My husband and I took our kayaks out on the Deschutes River for a float last weekend and out on a lake near Mt. Bachelor yesterday. It was gorgeous!
  • I’m itching to travel again. I’m thinking of planning a Viking cruise or a trip to London. It would be so fun to go in early December to see the Christmas markets in Europe. Do you have any travel planned?

Food News

Catch up on food-related news of the week:

  • New cookbook releases: The Fast Five by Donna Hay comes out in a week or so. I have an advanced copy. Donna Hay is an amazingly talented cookbook author. Her book is full of all kinds of delicious and unique recipes! For Hallmark movie lovers, the Hallmark Channel Countdown to Christmas offers festive recipes, decorating and wrapping tips, and star photos and memories. Sounds fun!
  • Here’s the fast food restaurant with the slowest drive-thru.
  • Food inflation is expected to make Thanksgiving more expensive this year.
  • Here are 30 Street Food Recipes from all around the world.

Products I'm Loving

Products I’m loving:

  • I just re-ordered a two-pack of my favorite mascara. It’s the only one that turns my very blonde light lashes into lashes that you can actually see!
  • Look for Lemon Elderflower Soda at Trader Joe’s. The whole can is 60 calories. I like to have it over ice with a lemon wedge squeezed into it. And if I’m feeling like a want a cocktail, I add a splash of vodka to it.
  • I’m currently burning this cute fall candle in my kitchen. I have a thing for candles that make the house smell amazing!
  • If you are looking to get a new sink for your kitchen remodel, consider the Bellucci Granite sink. We had this one put in when we did our kitchen remodel a couple of months ago, and I absolutely love it. It has a ridge around the top so you can use a drying rack or cutting board. And it’s easy to clean too.
  • Look for Dreyer’s Pumpkin Pie flavored ice cream. It has chunks of the pumpkin pie crust in it- so yummy.
  • I bought Olive Cocktail Picks as stocking stuffers for the guys in my house (yes, I’m that person who is already Christmas shopping).
  • If you love Christmas decorating, take a peek at the Pottery Barn website. They have some lovely holiday things, but it’s also fun to just look at the photos for ideas to decorate on your own.
  • I just bought this Mini Bag Sealer– based off the recommendation of a friend. It’s the coolest gadget! There is a heating element inside of it that will allow you to seal chip bags, etc. after they have been opened (keeping everything way more fresh).
  • If you know anyone who crochets, there’s a seller on Etsy who has the cutest pattern for peppermint throws and tree skirts.
