I served this grilled tuna for a small dinner party and it was quite the hit. No one expects tuna being served for dinner, so it turned out to be a delightful surprise. The citrus salsa that accompanies the tuna is delicious too. They’re the perfect pairing!

How to make Citrus Salsa:

When you think of “salsa,” you’re probably thinking of the tomato-based Mexican salsa fresca kind of salsa. This isn’t that kind of salsa. This is a beautiful, fresh fruit salsa. It’s a mix of diced oranges, red bell pepper, red onion, fresh mint, red wine vinegar and salt/pepper. The salsa can be made ahead of time and refrigerated. It’s sweet and wonderful to eat with the grilled tuna.

How to make Grilled Tuna:

You’ll need four tuna steaks for this recipe. I like to buy fresh ahi tuna. The steaks don’t need to be large. About 6-ounces each is perfect. Rub each of the tuna steaks with a little bit of olive oil. Then sprinkle them with ground coriander and salt/pepper. Tuna is very flavorful on its own and does not need a lot of seasoning.

Grill the tuna steaks 4 to 6 minutes per side. That’s all they need. Tuna will be pink in the middle (that’s how it’s usually served). If pink in the middle bothers you, then you can choose to grill them a little longer. Top the grilled tuna steaks with citrus salsa for serving.

Freshly grilled tuna does not need a lot of adornment. The salsa is so good with the fish.

Look for fresh tuna at your local seafood market. Fresh tuna will taste best! If buying frozen tuna (or fresh frozen), buy from a trusted source.

Weight Watchers Friendly:

This recipe is WW friendly and has a low point count!  Each serving of grilled tuna with citrus salsa will count as 3 points on the green plan and 1 point on the blue or purple plans.

Since this is a nice, light meal, I suggest serving it with a lovely little green salad. Add some steamed rice, if you’d like. Enjoy!
