These Orange Basil Mojitos are refreshing and delicious. Classic mojitos usually incorporate mint and lime juice. For these Orange Basil Mojitos, I sub basil for mint and fresh orange juice for lime. They’re fantastic!
My Orange Basil Mojitos were inspired by a Las Vegas poolside vacation. I was in Las Vegas for a friend’s birthday celebration. We had cocktails in the pool one day, and these were on the menu. Since they sounded so different, I had to try one. We we all got hooked on the amazing flavor in these mojitos, and I had to go home and re-create them.
Ingredients needed:
- fresh basil leaves
- white sugar
- orange juice
- white rum
- club soda
- crushed ice
How to make Orange Basil Mojitos:
Place a handful of fresh basil leaves in a pitcher. Sprinkle sugar on top of the basil. Then pour in orange juice. I like to squeeze fresh orange juice for this (or buy fresh orange juice), but you can use regular juice in the carton too.
Use your muddling tool to smash the heck out of the basil with the orange juice and sugar. (Don’t have a muddler? Not to worry… just use a wooden spoon.)
Add rum and club soda. It’s nice to use white rum so the color of the cocktail remains nice. If you want more club soda, it’s okay to add more.
Stir to combine the ingredients in the pitcher. It’s also completely okay to double the ingredients to make a larger amount. This recipe will give you 4 to 6 mojitos.
Pour your orange basil mojitos into glasses with crushed ice. Garnish with fresh basil and orange slices.
I understand that the addition of fresh basil instead of fresh mint might sound strange to you. I assure you that it’s wonderful! Orange and basil are a fantastic combination. You must try these mojitos, and share with friends. Enjoy!
